Question need help deleting a folder that won't delete

I have a folder on my desktop that I can not delete. I have been trying for 2 days to delete it. I can't delete or rename it. When I try it says that the file location is no longer located at c:\ "location of folder". I have tried several cmd commands and utility programs and nothing works. When I bring up cmd command it shows the folder in the dir but when I try to delete it it says it's not able to locate. I have windows 7. If someone can help i really need it. This folder is driving me nuts.

    Thanks

It sounds like the folder has somehow been moved from it's orginal location (certainly your computer thinks that's the case). Have you tried locating it's actual whereabouts, assuming the computer isn't seeing it on the desktop for some reason? Have you tried removing the file while in Safe Mode?

Also, Unlocker now makes a version for Windows 7 that works in both the 32- and 64-bit versions. You might want to download it (it's free, last I saw) and give it a try. It's removed unwanted folders/files for me in situations like this.

Another thing you can try that I have had to do a couple of time is recreate the folder and than try deleting it again.

Check the properties probably it was set to read only...if it is then no matter what software or hardware you use is it will not be deleted because it means its for your eyes only and no touching.....Just uncheck the box read only and your good to go......Unless its a virus.

I tried the new unlocker and it didn't work. It says no locking handle found. It asks what action I want to do and I choose to delete and then it says it will do the action on next restart but even after the restart i the folder is stiller there. I have tried to delete, rename and everything in safe mode and that doesn't work also.

I have double checked and the folder is not read only. The properties of the folder is C:\\users\my_name\Desktop. When I try to delete it it says this item is no longer located at C:\\users\my_name\Desktop. Verify item's location.

I know it's not a virus as I have scanned and also I had stuff in that folder at one point.

I am able to make a duplicate folder with the exact name. Once I make a duplicate folder I can then delete the original one but can't deleted the new one with the same name.

Thanks every for helping. This is driving me nuts

When you make the same folder again try replacing or overwriting the original and then deleting it. Like I said it works some of the time.

Thanks Gat. I tried the above again and it doesn't work. I can rename and delete the original folder but the duplicate takes the originals place and won't let me rename or delete it.

Sorry. I hoped it would work for you. I did run into a stubborn folder like that once and nothing I would do would get rid of it. I lived with it for a while until I had to do a complete reformat of the disc. It was finally gone. Hard way to have to get rid of it though. I will keep pondering on it. In the mean time good luck.

It might be a linked folder. Can't remember the actual command but I know that windows has strange link commands that screw up a lot if you don't do them correctly.
